A bond of love

Preparing to Pray

1.  Take three deep breaths, allowing yourself to be fully present.

2.  Speak to the Lord, telling him that you are dedicating the next fifteen minutes to be with Him.

3.  Ask for the grace you desire:

I ask to have the courage and honesty to be open to myself, as I stand in God's presence.

4.  Consider the following points:

In this section of Luke's Gospel, Jesus has just finished teaching his disciples the "Our Father." He then goes on to explain that the "Father" will hear and answer your prayers, much like a good father will. What am I brave enough to ask of God?

Prayer

Scripture:

Luke 11:9-13

Write the following letter in your journal, filling in all the blanks with how God wants to answer. After you write it, end your prayer with an Our Father.

"I, God, as the one who brought you into existence, do hereby agree to love, [your name], unconditionally. I will demonstrate this love through all the circumstances and ups and downs of your life. I will support you by...; I will nourish you by...; I will...; The conditions of this commitment have been effective from the moment I first thought of you. This offer is exempt from ever being terminated. Signed, God

Review your prayer

Take a few minutes to reflect on and journal about the following:

What was it like writing this letter? What was I feeling as I wrote it?

... or else write down any moments of consolation or desolation you encountered in your prayer.

Speak with the Lord, as one friend to another, about whatever came up in your prayer.

End with an Our Father or a Hail Mary.
